A true story...

Nadya Vessey photo from seaway.blogspot.com

I came across seawayblog.blogspot.com where I read about Nadya Vessey story. A New Zealand girl who was born with a condition that meant her legs would never develop properly and by the time she was 16 she had both her legs amputated.

However, she is a very high spirit and likes to joke around.

One day, a little boy (around 4) came to her while she taking off her prosthetic leg (artificial extension that replaces a missing body part) and ask her,

"why haven't you got any legs?"

and guess what she reply to that boy?

"Have you heard of The Little Mermaid?"

and he said 'yes'

Then she replied, 'I'm a mermaid'

he got this look on his face and he said 'wow that's cool' and ran off to tell his dad."

Then the idea start it from there.
Yes, she want to be a mermaid!!

To realize her dream, she ask directly to a famous company called WETA Digital (won awards for its visual effects for Lord of the rings and King Kong movie) to create a tail for her which helps her to swims like a mermaid!

The idea was accepted by the company and guess what?

After two years of study,a fully-functioning tail complete with a fitted suit designed by eight creative artist. The masterpiece covered with digitally printed sock with hand-painted mermaid scales.

The artificial 'mermaid tail'

Nadya Vessey become a 'mermaid'

Quoted from the article,
"Nadya was astounded and delighted...
'It was absolutely amazing,' said costumer Lee Williams. 'It's beautiful to watch Nadya swim and to see that dream come true and to be a part of that. I feel quite blessed.'"

Nadya finally swimming like a true mermaid!!! Yeay!!
